В школе нас учили – нужно поставить перед собой цель и идти к ней твердо, не сворачивая. И в жизни часто бывает – поставил молодой, полный жизненной силы человек, цель перед собой. И – вперед, в путь!
Первые шаги даются с трудом, набиваются шишки, натираются мозоли, происходит знакомство с граблями. Но это не пугает, а лишь подстегивает. Наступает новая фаза – человек становится жестче – не обращает внимания на беды друзей и болезни родственников, не уделяет им достаточно времени, ведь оно нужно для того, чтобы проанализировать ошибки и рассчитать по шагам и минутам оставшийся до главной цели путь. И вот уже не очень молодой, но все еще энергичный, он продолжает свой нелегкий путь. Советчики, злопыхатели, друзья в недоумении – «Погоди!» – говорят, – «Ты куда? Зачем же так?» А он не слушает никого и ничего не видит, потому что смотрит строго вперед, а прямо по курсу – его главная, единственная цель! Он не очень следит за собой – ест, что попало, живет, с кем придется, подрабатывает чем удастся. Болезни стали наступать. Появились залысины и животик. Но это – мизерная жертва по сравнению с тем, что – главная дорога стала еще короче, а желанная цель – еще ближе. Но жизнь берет свое – вот уж разорились и уехали бедовавшие друзья, умерли болевшие родственники, злопыхатели и советчики устроились здорово. Стали пошаливать нервы, побаливать сердце, залысинки превратились в лысину, маленький животик – в толстый, жирный пояс вокруг талии. Начали барахлить почки. Справа и слева, сверху и снизу доносятся крики: «Куда? Остановись! Тебе – в другую сторону!» Но крики эти лишь подстегивали настойчивого путника и он упрямо не менял курса. И цель уже почти близко. Но гораздо ближе – и уже видится невооруженным глазом – немощная старость, хронические болячки, одиночество. Это – мелочи, думает человек, ведь до цели – совсем чуть – чуть. Она буквально за следующим поворотом. Пусть он очень крут, пусть отнимет последние силы, поддаст в пах невидимым копытом. И путник напрягается – собирает остатки сил и осколки здоровья. Друзья оставили его, родных уж нет, злопыхатели и советчики шепчутся между собой:–«Смотри, идет, не падает!» – и открыто завидуют ему. А он все движется. Уж жизнь за плечами. Оставшиеся рядом с лысиной волосики поседели, тело превратилось в бесформенную массу, одна нога волочится, не желает шагать. Левый глаз видит плохо, правый – совсем никак. Жилье старенькое, убогое, одежда поношенная и давно не стиранная, руки слабые, худые. Но – блеск в полуслепых очах. До цели – рукой подать. И вот – последний рывок. Ноги не держат, ползком, ползком, лишь бы добраться, лишь бы успеть.
И обессиленный, раздавленный жизнью человек на дрожащих ногах подходит вплотную (а уже не верилось, что дойдет). Дотрагивается до желанной, смотрит в упор слезящимися глазами, улыбается беззубым ртом, усмехается безумной улыбкой, быстро вспоминает пролетевшую жизнь, оценивая тяжесть утраченного. И с ужасом осознает – не то!
